T.C. Owens came to Saluda as a Vocational teacher/Assistant Principal after military service in 1950-1951. He became the principal of Riverside High School, grades 1-12, when the school building was first completed. He was principal of Riverside School and other community schools that were in existence. After integration, Mr. Owens remained as principal of Riverside Middle School. He played a large part in the smooth transition that occurred in Saluda Schools during integration. He remained as principal until his retirement in 1987. He was the longest serving principal in Saluda School District One, 37 years. He later served the district as School Hearing Officer.
