The Saluda Girls Varsity soccer team lost yesterday in the first round of the 2AA State Playoffs to Greenville Tech Charter. The game began and immediately the Tigers were tested by a dangerous attacking third. Throughout the first half the pressure built until eventually GTC scored. Then the Tigers came back and had a chance of their own but saw the shot by Grace Hipp deflect off the far post. Later in the first half GTC struck again making the score 0-2 in their favor. The Tigers now feeling the game slip away, struck when Baily Will beat the back line and scored. The goal was disallowed by the referee as Will was called a shade offside. Once again GTC struck, this time from outside the 18 on a great shot that found the upper corner of the far post. The half ended with the Tigers down 0-3. In the second half of play the game changed quickly when the Tigers determined to put up fight scored in the first 8 minutes off of a clever run into space and even better finish by Bailey Will (1). Then 9 minutes later, the Tigers struck again when Bailey Will found Grace Hipp (1) for a goal from inside the 6. With a score of 2-3 the game became a little chippy. Then GTC beat the back line of the Tigers and scored to push the lead to 2-4. The Tigers not to be out done responded once again when Bailey Will beat the GTC Keeper for her second goal of the night and pulled the game back to within 1. However, later in the match GTC found the back of the net one more time from outside the 18 and was able to push the lead to 3-5. The score would remain 3-5 at the end of regulation. Alondra Acevedo had 10 saves for the Tigers. The Tigers ended the season 11-5 overall and 2nd in the Region with 9 shut out wins.
