For the second year in a row, Batesburg-Leesville traveled to Bettis Herlong stadium and for the second year in a row the Tigers defeated Saluda. Saluda fell behind 26-0 before running 4 offensive plays due to turnovers and mishaps on special teams. The Tigers did not give up and scored in the second quarter on a blocked punt by Alkamus Johnson, who also fell on the ball in the endzone for a touchdown. The PAT was no good and Saluda trailed 26-6. Batesburg would add two more touchdowns before Jonah McCary would complete a pass to Zion Wright from 55 yards out. McCary would hook up with Tyleke Mathis on a pass for the two point conversion to cut the lead to 40-14 at the half. Saluda would take the second half kickoff and score on a 2 yard touchdown run by Tyleke Mathis and Sam Espinoza would add the PAT to cut the lead to 40-21. Batesburg would capitalize on a Tiger turnover to push the lead to 46-21 early in the 4th quarter. Saluda would add their final score on a Austin Summer run from 3 yards out and Espinoza would add the PAT and the Tigers would trail 46-28. An unsuccessful onside kick would lead to another Batesburg touchdown and would make the final 52-28. Saluda falls to 2-2 in the conference and face a must win game vs. Newberry this Friday night at Bettis Herlong Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
