The JV Lady Tigers hosted the Wildcats of Ninety Six on Monday night and came away with a 3-1 victory.
Taylor Wideman got things rolling in the tigers half of the 1st with a single to to left and eventually scored on a passed ball. The Tigers struck again in the bottom of the 3rd when Ava Martin led off with a base hit to right. Wideman moved Martin and reached on a sacrifice bunt when 96 misplayed the ball. With runners at 2nd and 3rd, Martin was tagged out trying to score on a wild pitch, but Wideman scored again on another wild pitch making it 2-0 Saluda. Ninety Six tallied a run in the 4th to close the gap to 2-1. The Tigers picked up their final run in the 6th inning when pinch hitter Savonna Edwards popped a hit over the pitcher. Tamia Daniels doubled down the right field line to put runners at 2nd and third with 2 outs. Edwards scored on the next pitch on a passed ball.
Ninety Six mounted a comeback effort in the 7th, as Sam Minick issued walks to the first 2 batters and Ninety Six advanced the lead runner for a first and third situation with no outs. The next Wildcat batter lined a ball back to S. Minick who made the catch and doubled up the runner at first for the double play. S. Minick struck out the final Ninety Six batter to seal the 3-1 victory.
The Freshman hurler finished the game allowing only 1 hit, issued 5 walks, while striking out 10. The Tigers defense committed no errors in the win.
The JV Lady Tigers will be back in action on May 4th as they travel to Batesburg-Leesville for a region 3 match-up. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm
