The Saluda Tigers advanced to the second round of the AA playoffs with a 42-6 victory over the Blacksburg Wildcats. The Tigers received the opening kickoff and drove 65 yards in 12 plays when Noah Bell hooked up with Dallan Wright from three yards out. Adrian Vasquez added the extra point and the Tigers went up 7-0. After a three and out by the Wildcats, Saluda needed only one play and Bell would connect with Jervon Whitt from 37 yards out. Vasquez would add the extra point to give Saluda a 14-0. Saluda would score again midway through the 2nd quarter when Bell and Wright would connect again from 3 yards out with Vasquez adding the extra point to give the Tigers a 21-0 lead. Bell and Whitt would connect again, this time from 15 yards out and along with the Vasquez kick, Saluda would jump to a 28-0 lead late in the second quarter. Saluda would strike again when Bell and Wright would connect for a third time, this time from 36 yards out, and along with the Vasquez kick, the Tigers would increase their lead to 35-0. The Tigers defense would get in on the act when a Wildcat fumble would be recovered by Al Johnson, who returned it 15 yards for the Tigers final touchdown of the half and game. Vasquez would add the PAT and Saluda would lead 42-0 at the half. In the first half, the Saluda defense would force 2 turnovers and would only allow two first downs and 4 yards of total offense. Noah Bell would complete 21 of 33 passes for 246 yards and 5 TD’s (all in the first half). Zaye Bryant would be the leading receiver for the Tigers with 5 catches for 74 yards while Jervon Whitt would haul in 7 catches for 71 yards and 2 TD’s. Dallan Wright would inch closer to the 1000 yard receiving yards with 4 catches for 53 yards and 3 TD’s. With the win the Tigers will advance to the second round and will travel to Buford, who was a 43-34 victor over C.A. Johnson.
